Responsibility to the Environment and to Our Clients
Teak (lat. tectona grandis) is the center of our work. It grows naturally in Southeast Asia, but can also be found on plantations around the globe. Depending on the area and quality of the soil, the colour of the freshly cut wood has various shades, ranging from orange to green. Regardless of the colour, it has the same characteristics which make it one of the most valuable timbers of the world.
The trees grow very straight and tall with few knots resulting in a uniform grain appearance. It is the naturally grown trees which are ideally suited for yacht use. Teak is hard, stable, resistant to insects and rotting, and provides excellent traction even when wet. Despite these attributes, nearly fifty percent of the teak installed is replaced prematurely as a result of poor design, faulty installation or poor maintenance. All teak decking companies owe it to both the environment and their clients to design, engineer and install to meticulous standards to prevent early failure. In these areas, Teak Solutions leads the way and takes the challenge seriously.
Our decks will weather to the wonderful silver grey patina familiar from old sailing ships and then last for decades. The commitment to environment starts in the forest with the selection of the right tree for the right job. Next is the proper cutting with modern equipment to minimize waste. Milling must be done to exact standards and only the best epoxies and other assembly parts are allowed. Anuradha Timbers, a family owned and operated mill, cuts our wood in Hyderabad, India. They are the best and possibly the largest teak mill in the world with nearly four generations of experience.
Thanks to our modern vacuum kiln, custom cut wood can be quickly dried without splitting or distortion. This saves more wood and allows it to be shipped to customers worldwide on short notice. This special service, which is unique to the teak business, has helped keep numerous large projects on schedule when last minute shortages have arisen. Lastly, because we buy large volumes of logs, wood from one geographic area can be specified for a single project which helps control quality and minimizes replacements.
