Our Technique
Today’s steel ships do not need structural strip planked teak decks. They need engineered designs with flexibility between the steel and teak. Teak Solutions provides this by using a sub deck composed of special marine grade plywood (Lloyds certified) that is mechanically and adhesively fastened to the steel deck. Therefore, it is possible to glue wood to wood without using screws, minimizing potential water damage and the possibility of planks loosening or lifting from the steel.
The deck will be manufactured adjacent to the boat in a mobile workshop. The production is based on templates and laser generated drawings taken directly from the boat to ensure every altered detail or deviation from the original drawing will be noticed and considered. According to the layout of the deck, and with the use of a unique vacuum technique, the perfectly flat panels can measure up to 24 meters in length and up to 1,20 meters in width. Once the panel is glued in place, all joints will be re-cut, resulting in a uniform and straight caulking line.
With years of practice, Teak Solutions has perfected their on board installation of pre-glued panels with a highly efficient vacuum system. No more wavy decks, hollow areas or damage to the sub deck due to screws or clamps which can happen with the traditional method of installation.
Even the unnecessary sanding off of several millimetres to level the deck is just not applicable any more. The panel keeps its full height which will result in a longer lasting deck.
Our vacuum process makes a Teak Solutions’ deck so unique and guarantees maximum durability.
